Day Beds are among the oldest and most versatile type of beds to date. This is because they can be utilized for both seating and sleeping purposes. Today’s modern day beds are a pleasure to the eye, thanks to their elegant design. Buying a day bed is a delightful experience. You would only need to know a few things before you can find the perfect day bed for you and your family.

The Frame

Daybed frames can be of all-metal construction, or a combination of wood and metal. Traditional day beds were almost entirely made up of metals and were usually only used for sleeping on. However, modern ones are now used as sofas too.

The Firmness of Mattress

Mattresses that firmer are more suitable for being used primarily for sleeping purpose. If you plan on using your day bed more for sitting, then consider getting a softer mattress. Good quality daybed mattresses are extra sturdy and re-enforced well to take up all the strains.

Material of the Mattress

The mattress is made from various types of materials, such as:

  • Memory Foam
  • Spring Mattress
  • Hypo-allergenic Latex Mattress

A memory foam is extremely comfortable for both sleeping and sitting. As it retains heat, it’s ideal for those who live in colder climates. Spring Mattresses can be bought at a much cheaper price and are fairly comfortable. A hypoallergenic latex mattress is best for those who have allergies.

Trundle

Day beds also have something called a trundle, which can be pulled out to provide extra space for sleeping. There are mainly two types of trundles: a drawer trundle and a pop-up trundle.

A drawer trundle can easily slide out, just like a drawer, and can hold a twin-sized mattress. These can also be left empty to utilize the space for storage.
Pop-up trundles tend to be more popular as they can easily transform a twin sized daybed into a king-size one. These are made of metals, and their position can be altered by lowering or elevating them to align them with the primary mattress.
A day bed is an extremely versatile piece of furniture that can be used for some purposes without having to buy separate furniture that would otherwise take up more space and make your home look cramped.
